Safety
Dating apps in this region are heavily targeted by organised romance fraud. That shaped the architecture of Kilig before it shaped the marketing.
Kilig has not launched. This page states the commitments the first release is being built to meet, so they can be read and held against the product rather than written afterwards to match it.
Identity verification
Verification is optional and handled by a specialist identity provider. Your government ID image and any face scan are processed by that provider and are never stored on Kilig servers. What is kept is the outcome — which provider checked, their reference, the result, a reason code, and when it was decided.
This is a deliberate limit on our own access. A breach of Kilig cannot expose identity documents we never held.
Contact details are earned, not bought
Phone numbers and off-platform messaging handles stay private until both people have verified their identity and exchanged a genuine back-and-forth conversation. Both conditions, both directions.
There is no membership tier, boost, or purchase that unlocks someone else’s contact details early. A safety control that can be bought is not a safety control, and the ability to pay for faster access to a stranger is a fraud pattern rather than a feature.
Reporting and blocking
- Any member can report any other member, from any conversation or profile.
- Blocking is mutual and enforced in the database itself, not only in the interface — a blocked account cannot reach you through a different screen.
- Reports are reviewed. Objectionable content and abusive accounts are acted on within 24 hours of a report being received.
- Reporting and blocking are free, for everyone, always.
Harassment, and who actually receives it
Every protection on this page is available to every member, on the same terms, at no cost. That is deliberate and it is not going to change — a safety control that can be bought is not a safety control.
It is also true that unwanted sexual messages, coercion and image-based abuse land overwhelmingly on women, and that the Philippines legislated for this specifically in the Safe Spaces Act, which reaches gender-based sexual harassment committed online. We would rather name that than describe a neutral problem that does not match anyone’s experience.
The controls that exist because of it:
- Nobody gets your contact details by paying. Phone numbers and off-platform handles are not shown by default and cannot be unlocked with a membership. No amount of money moves someone closer to you than you have allowed.
- Blocking is enforced in the database. Not a filter on one screen — a blocked account cannot reach you through search, discovery, or a second route into the same conversation.
- A block survives the other person deleting their account. Someone who deletes and re-registers to get around a block does not come back into your feed.
- Photos are private by default. They are stored privately and served through short-lived links, so an image cannot be lifted and passed around by URL.
- Deletion is reversible for 14 days.Deleting an account under pressure from a partner is a real pattern, and the window exists so that decision is not final the moment it is made. “Delete immediately” is there for anyone who wants the opposite.
- Reporting is never rate-limited or counted against a tier. There is no circumstance in which you are out of reports.
If you are experiencing abuse from someone you met here, report the account and email [email protected]. You do not need to have evidence organised, and you will not be asked to justify blocking anyone.
Recognising romance fraud
Patterns worth knowing, whichever app you are using:
- Moving the conversation to another app quickly, especially before either of you has verified.
- Any request for money, gift cards, load, or crypto — including emergencies, customs fees, medical bills, or a business opportunity. This does not become safe because you have been talking for months.
- Investment or trading advice from someone you met on a dating app.
- Refusing a live video call while always having a reason.
- Photos that feel inconsistent with the person, or a story that changes in small ways.
Kilig will never ask you for money, and no member of our team will ever contact you to request payment or your password.
If something goes wrong
Report it in the app, block the account, and email [email protected] if you need a human. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first.
You can remove your account at any time from the account deletion page, including if you have already uninstalled the app.
What we will not do
- Rank or promote anyone in discovery on the basis of nationality or citizenship.
- Sell a feature that weakens another member’s safety or privacy.
- Publish testimonials or couple counts as marketing.
- Store identity documents or biometric templates on our own systems.
